What is Pixelfed?

A fresh take on photo sharing. Get inspired with beautiful photos captured by people around the world.

Social media’s growing negative reputation, including potential bans and privacy issues, is leading users to explore alternative platforms within the Fediverse. 

With features including:

• Ad-free + privacy focused
• Open source + decentralized (anyone can create their own server).
• Chronological style feeds (no algorithms). 
• Mobile apps available
  

Pixelfed has many of the same features as larger social media sites, but with better privacy and a user-focused approach.

Since twitter has become a ghost town and meta has helped facilitate with the possible tiktok ban. I’ve started using Pixelfed myself.

Over 300K Active Users

Those users are spread across 1.3k interconnected Pixelfed servers, the platform is growing. Recent interest has surged, potentially due to news of a potential TikTok ban. So many people have recently joined (including me a few days ago) that the site experienced—but has since resolved—performance issues.

Loops

Pixelfed is developing a new video project called Loops. Which could be fresh take on video app/ sharing compare to youtube shorts or if tiktok does get banned.
